The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was enacted in March of 2010 to assist qualifying individuals and families in getting comprehensive, affordable health insurance plans. Open Enrollment for the ACA plans is November 1st through January 15th. For enrollment outside of open enrollment, Special Enrollment Periods (SEP) are required and certain Qualifying Life Events create a special enrollment period. Some qualifying life events are:

  • Loss of Health coverage

  • Marriage

  • Divorce

  • Birth of a child

  • Death of a household member

  • Change in income status

ACA plans are through private insurance companies and are not government aid programs. The ACA plans are guaranteed issue plans which means they cover pre-existing conditions.
